Hello, friends 🙂
There’s so much I want to say! But as I sit here at my friend’s kitchen table in Tokyo, I find myself not knowing exactly where to begin this story. So much over the past almost-decade has gone into shaping and directing my move from the US to Japan.
I met Susan Spann when I was about fourteen years old. She mentored me in English throughout high school and we formed a lasting friendship. In fact, I consider her family. Susan made a permanent move to Japan when I was nineteen years old, about five and half years ago now. Over the past three years or so, while I was working my way through college, Susan and I came up with the idea that after graduating I would move in with her for a year and we would write a book together about our travels and adventures throughout Japan.
Now, it’s December first, and I’m here. I’m sitting at Susan’s table, in a suburb of Tokyo, getting ready to start my English teaching job next week. Like I said, so much has gone into bringing this dream into reality – too much to explain in this post. But for now, I think this is a good start to the story which will continue to unfold as I do life here, with Susan, over the next year.
I can’t wait to share my stories with you as I learn and grow and explore this vibrant country and culture!
